Korean War

10 Important things:

In 1945, the USSR occupied Korea north of the 38th parallel. American forces controlled land south of this line.

June 1950, North Korea invades South Korea. This is known as the Korean War.

President Truman saw this as a test for his communist containment policy.

US forces as well as forces from other UN nations go to Korea under the command of General Douglas MacArthur.

In the early part of the war, the North Koreans push the South Koreans almost all the way to the south of the peninsula.

General MacAurthur decides to land troops on Lnchon. The North Koreans were surrounded, and are forced to go back to where they started.

MacArthur started to chase them almost all the way to China.

China sees this as a threat and invades on November 25th, 1950. They drive the UN back to the 38th parallel.

General MacArthur wanted to blockade Chinas coastline and bomb China, but Truman said no.

Truman thought that would lead to the USSR entering the war.
